Some beach pictures from this weekend.

To give you an idea of what the temperatures were like:

Not much for surf, really (taken with the DA 12-24):

But that didn't stop people from paddling out and waiting:

Some of them even caught some waves:

Others had fun sliding along:

Looking like they were chasing sea gulls.

Most of these pictures were taken with the A*300.

Nice series..especially during these cold winter months (even in Kentucky). I like the "crackled" effect on the water in image # 2. Nice stop action on the ones with the surfer. Was this using your 55-300 lens?

The level of unfairness mounts up! We don't even have snow and arctic cool to boast about, only temperatures just over or under freezing point and rain and sticky, wet clay.

Just the thing for cabin fever. We had snow and never got out of single digit temperatures this past weekend. Really nice shots .........I also loved your post with the ships

Kazuya - I love California - you can surf in the morning and ski in the afternoon. Though there's not much skiing in SoCal at the moment - our snow is long gone. On the other hand, you have such beautiful shades of green all over - we have brown most of the year. And our architecture is boring compared to your historical buildings. So there's trade-offs.

I'm not sure what lens I used for the sunbathers - that might have been the DA 55-300. All of the surfers were taken with the A*300 - it will always be my lens of choice when I know I want to use something that long. The DA holds its own (better than I had expected), but it doesn't match the older manual focus lens. I think the surfer catching the wave (#4) is the best surfing picture I've managed so far, I really like the water.

Kjell - that's the kind of weather that's miserable. No snow, no sun, just shades of grey. At least you can look at some bright pictures from somewhere else, and admire your little feathered family, right?

Tom - isn't it about time for a visit out this way? Think of it as an alternative to an electric blanket, a way to get warm.

Thanks, Stevie, glad I have our weather at the moment. Though I will be happier to see the rain this week - it's getting dry again and we need all the rain we can get.

2, 3, 4, and 6 were taken while I was standing on Oceanside pier. 1 and 5 were while I was on the beach further down toward the jetty.

Great Shots Harriet,
I was at the beach last Sunday myself but, I didn't get down to the shore. however I did get a few shots from the 12th floor of my sister's condo. I'll post a couple as soon as I get a chance.
GW:bye:
