I think I'm going to like this new lens...
only wish I could get closer or had an f2.8 500mm :G
all hand held @200mm.

when I first saw him fly over me he was pretty close but by the time I got him in the viewfinder he was almost gone.:O

heavy crop, same pic.

then he circled around and came back and landed in a tree about 100ft away.

He sat there posing for quite a while. I was using manual mode and decided to switch to program mode, and continued snapping away. I took maybe 50 shots before I realized I was in SV mode at 3200 ISO! reset and got several more before he left.

Enjoy,

Just a couple more...:-)

Still a fairly heavy crop, this onr gives you an idea how far away he was.

Very nice! Yes, this looks like an excellent lens.

You don't want a 500mm f2.8 - you wouldn't be able to lift it!

Wow, excellent shots. My wife and I do a lot of kayaking in the summer, but still I see an osprey only about once every year or two. To have seen such a majestic bird and had your camera -- and the right lens -- that must have been a great day!

Hey mtnman,
Thanks for the complement , Osprey are pretty common around here but, this is the first time I've been able to get this good of a shot. seeing them and getting a good pic are two different things.
:G

Hey Tom and Stevie,
thank you both.
:-)
