Cloudy day, arm in sling, nothing to do, so this is what I came up with using the 200mm 2.8.

Interesting how rough the cloths pins get sitting on the line all winter, compared to the ones on the line inside the screen porch.

f/1.4

You're as desperate as I am. Well, maybe not. I haven't taken to shooting clothes pins  But, I'm close.

Nice job.

Hey, getting a nice picture of a couple of objects with lots of texture and an interesting DOF is being creative! I like the picture - its more interesting than what I was thinking about this morning. I've got a cold and will probably spend most of the day indoors at home. I was considering taking pictures of the pattern that cream creates when you first put a drop or two into a mug full of coffee. I decided that was TOO desperate for a topic.

Yours is also a nice example of an interesting picture coming from an ordinary subject - it becomes interesting because of the contrast between subject and background, the feel of the texture (more contrast between the rough pins and the smooth line), the nice use of DOF, with the sharply focused front clip, then the gradual OOF line and the bokeh is lovely.

It wouldn't be hard to adapt something like this to this month's challenge (broken symmetry), I could think of a couple of ways to do that. As you can tell, I like this one.

This might not be a clothes pin, but it's about as ordinary. Inspired by the monthly challenge:

Thanks Harriet, I was looking for something to take photos of other than Chickadees since the Redpols have gone north now and this was the only thing I could find that was kind of interesting.

I wanted to check the DOF of the 200 at 2.8 and was planning on doing another shot with the 85 1.4 to see how they compare, but the weather turned on me and that didn't happen.

I put on the second image with the 85 1.4 to show the extremely shallow DOF with that lens.

That's a tiny DOF! Not all of the first clip is in focus. The lens has nice bokeh also - I can see why both lenses have such an awesome reputation. Which 85mm 1.4 do you have - the A* or the FA*? Just as pictures go, I like the 200 2.8 one better.
