My wife and I took advantage of the spring weather here in Basel, Switzerland. Thought you might like to see how much you could spend on a couple of items.
First is a pipe that caught my eye. The Swiss Franc is about par with the US dollar, so the prices would be about the same if in $$$.

Then there was this Louis Vuitton hand bag. If you can't quite read that number on the bottom, its 4760.00 Swiss Francs.

Not only is the pipe priceless, your picture of it is as well! Great composition and lighting and very sharp capture! As for the hand bag, my own guideline is never pay any more for a purse than what you can afford tocarryin it

Isn't there a British magazine, named "How to spend it", directed to a specific, narrow, target group?:O

Nice pics of the financial crisis, though!

Thanks for the comments Jay and Kjell. I don't think I would have any problem with the "how" of spending it. It's the "how" of earning it that has me stumped!

What about my method? I bought this lens (Pentax F 50mm f1.4), together with some "other stuff" (two analog bodies, some lenses, an old flash) for a total of SEK2250 (EUR202/USD260). The auctions on "the other stuff" just ended, bringing in a total of SEK2772 (EUR249/USD320). So the free market gave me SEK522/EUR47/USD60 for my kindness to take care of this poor lonely lens. The surplus will for sure be used for other camera stuff.

Love the picture of the pipe. Can't imagine what would make a pipe worth that kind of money, though. I also can't imagine what would make a purse made of cloth worth that kind of money, either. But it does bring to mind that I probably should do something about replacing my purse - the zipper pull broke 6 months ago (it cost something like $20 USD new 3 years ago). It's just not high on my list of priorities.

The pictures are great. Along with everyone else, I'm especially taken by the photo of the pipe. I don't smoke, so I know nothing of the culture surrounding pipes, but it makes me wonder: if someone buys it, would they be willing to stuff it full of tobacco and smoke it? Might that ruin the pipe?

A friend of mine has a beautiful cane fly rod worth approximately $1500. He fishes with a carbon fiber rod that cost about $125. I asked him once if he ever uses the cane rod, and he said, "Absolutely not! I just might catch a fish!"

Beautiful pipe shot. I can't imagine damaging something that expensive with fire. But......

I'm with ya on the don't spend more on a purse than you've got to carry in it. That's why all my purses are cheapies!:-)
