They're a little blurred but, these are the best ones of wood storks that I've been able to get... :cart:

Your pictureis really fine, as Jelpee says you have taken a big leap forwards with your BIF shots. But those birds should put a paper bag over their heads, really.:G

Great shots GW. I agree with Kjell, but I have to assume that they look pretty good to other wood storks!

Looks good. Well, maybe not the heads. They sure are strange looking.

They may not look so pretty, but they are masterful when soaring in the air above you. Endangered in the US where they are now restricted to the extreme southeastern states, they were once continuously distributed around the Gulf Coast into Mexico, where they still occur. Now a little more widespread. I saw them in southern Florida years ago when their main (last remaining?) colony was in the Big Cypress Swamp. I saw one in California near Santa Barbara my first year here, and haven't seen one since. Nice capture - thanks for posting them.

Hey Pen,
Thank you for the interesting info on them. I was unaware of that. I agree with the rest of you on there looks... got to be one of the ugliest birds I've seen! right up there with the Vultures.
Thank you all for the comments.

Definitely odd looking birds. Not as ugly as a turkey vulture but close. And thanks for the interesting information about them, Penolta.
