I put metal lens hoods on all of my lenses (except the 14mm) and then put the lens caps away in a drawer. Between the UV filter and the hood I no longer have an issue with lost caps or dirty lenses. I will post a picture later.

Great and very timely topic for me Patty. I usually put the lens cap in my pants pocket, but Saturday I was hiking up from Hampton Creek Cove to Yellow Mountain Gap on the Appalachian trail, and put my lens cap down for a moment to capture a beautiful sky. You guessed it - the lens cap is still up somewhere on Yellow Moutanin Gap! I wish I had seen that great idea from Lyrics51 before this weekend...

Curious to see your solution, Ira. Sure sounds simple.

Mole - that's what I kept doing at the zoo a few weeks ago. Having just picked up the lens I was using, there was no strap. I kept putting it in different pockets and forgetting which one. Or, setting down on a flat surface and walking away without it.

Here are mine. All are aftermarket hoods except on the F 100-300mm, that one is an old Takumar 200mm f4 hood.

Annette has the DA 18-55mm (but the lens hood is missing), the DA 50-200mm and the FA 35mm f2 all with lens caps and stock hoods. She uses the cap keepers on her lenses. My DA 14mm also still has a lens cap since it is too wide a view for the metal hoods and the stock plastic one doesn't offer the protection of the hoods on my other lenses.
