Hi All,

It's definitely faster for me, took a while to find and change the skin, and to find and add my location to my profile again. Hopefully the performance will prevent the multiple post thing. . .

You can also post multiple pics in a single post -- but they are placed side by side, so it stretches the text sideways beyond the borders of a screen. See my "Digger Bees" thread for an example.

It seems that you can only use 4 smileys max per post --

So far, I like it, but we'll see . . . not that we'll have much say in the matter. . .

Scott

Hello, everybody! I'm Dick, and I'm the PM for SDC. I thought I'd chime in and address some of the concerns.

I'm glad to see that the overall response has been positive! We think vB is a drastic improvement from wowBB both in functionallity and stability. On this new platform we have the ability to add more custom features and optimize the site much more effectively.

And after changing to the light theme, not bad.

I only don't understand the need for the black theme (with red buttons) that you get by default. I can't understand why you would put something up that looks that bad as the first thing new members would see.

If the site gets more stable I'm for the change.

Ronny
We kept the default black and red theme because that is how the old forum looked. For people who were used to the lighter style, I'm sure it was quite a shock. Our intention was to keep everything as close to the same as possible for the migration to minimize the "oh no, something's changed" effect. As time goes on, improving the aesthetics of the site will be of increasingly significant importance to us.

I have always used the default skin and I like it! But all pictures are gone from my (and everyone elses) old threads.
I can understand the storage problem, but it's a pity when you want to refer someone to an older thread.

Kjell
This has been fixed. In order to speed up the site, we moved the images out of the database which messed up the references to them. If you come across any threads that aren't displaying their attachments, please point them out and we'll get them repaired ASAP.

I've been on a number of boards that use this software, so it's not so strange to me. I hadn't noticed that I need to put my location in again (will do that shortly). It does seem much faster and so far has been more stable. And yes, the first thing I did when I logged on was to find where to change the skin. While I like a black background for looking at pictures, I've always found text to be too harsh/contrasty.

The one thing I don't like as well is how it seems to mark everything as read, even when I haven't read all the threads yet. Will that be sorted out?

Overall, I'm quite happy with the new format.

IB-Dick, thanks for chiming in. One thing I'd like to see changed is the underlining of the headline of each thread. The underlining actually makes it less readable when one is browsing to find a specific thread. Bold would be much better, underlining is an old remains from the mechanical typewriter times. And like mtngal I also find the symbols to the left of the headline (read/unread indicators) less clear than they were before.
Thanks for bringing back old pictures!

Well, I think it's going to take some getting used to. I've only been on it about 20 minutes now. Still learning things and finding my way around. Thanks for the tip on the # of posts. I'd been wondering about that. Figured I'd check out what had been going on rather than spending whatever time I have right now "reading the directions" Maybe tomorrow I'll have some uninterrupted time.

Patty

Added: Just realized there was more to this thread than I had read. Hadn't noticed I didn't have a location any more. I did notice that the PM is stating I have no more room. And, a lot of my messages seem to be duplicated. And, I'm not positive, but it seems I've got messages in there I'd deleted a while back. Guess I'd better read the directions.

Since I have only been a member on this board for a short time, any differences between the old and new formats isn't troubling me. I do like the improvement in load times and for some reason, even after trying the other skins, I still prefer the basic black.
I'm not sure if it is still a glitch to be worked out, but I had to post this using Quick Reply as using the Reply button got me a black screen with a line of programming language.

I can make a change in the configuration that should make this better.

We didn't originally have them underlined, but we had complaints that links were hard to distinguish. We'll continue to tweak the UI, but we understand that we're never going to please everybody.

We had an issue when we imported the PM's that duplicated many of them. We've been able to delete 90% of the duplicates, but automating the deletion of the rest of them is difficult. We realize that this is a terribly inconvenience for those effected. We have increased the # of PM's which should bring most users under the limit.

If nothing else, the PM issue was good for me. I hadn't emptied my deleted messages folder and also had a number of them that I should have, but hadn't bothered to delete. So I decided to start over fresh, with the new board and deleted all of them. Thank you for putting in the "empty folder" option, sure made things quick.

From IB-Dick

"We will try to duplicate this problem and fix it."

I just tried clicking the Reply button and is working. Not sure what was going on before when I tried.
