I primarily use Sandisk Ultra II 16GB cards. They save at 15 mbs. The size of files, particularly in RAW, makes the high-speed card desirable. I read one discussion that said the max save speed of the camera is between 15 and 20, so the 30mbs cards are a little overkill.

I use the Ultra II 4 gig cards that write at 15 mbs. I carry an extra one in the grip and between the two are more than enough for a couple of days shooting. I prefer to split my load between 2 cards; I'm afraid that if it was all on one card, and it proved defective, I'd lose it all.

I use 2 Transcend 8gb SDHC Class 6 cards. Manufacturer specs are: Approx. 19MB/sec Read; 13MB/sec Write. At the speed at which I take pictures they are plenty fast enough for me. Sure you can get faster cards. But these were about $17/each and they have not produced any errors or corrupted files. I've taken/saved probably 2000+ images on the one card already. I'm more than happy with them. YMMV.

I can simply repeat this answer, I seldom start the second card. 4 gig is normally more than enough for one day's shooting (167 RAWs).

I have been using the Sandisk Extreme III SD 2GB for a while and I just bought a Japan made Panasonic SDHC Class 6 4GB with the same speed of 20MB/s.

Just found a comparison of sd(hc) cards in a German Journal.
"ColorFoto 6/2009"

They compare different cards when used with a k20d

TakeMS 4GB klasse 6 sdhc
59,3s Time needed for 20 raw images (20MB each)
29s Time for 20 jpg's in series
20 Max jpg's in a serie

Kingston 4GB type 4 sdhc
59,3s Time needed for 20 raw images (20MB each)
29s Time for 20 jpg's in series
20 Max jpg's in a serie

Panasonic 4GB type 4 sd
81,6s Time needed for 20 raw images (20MB each)
28s Time for 20 jpg's in series
20 Max jpg's in a serie

Scandisk 4GB type 2 sdhc
84,3s Time needed for 20 raw images (20MB each)
36,2s Time for 20 jpg's in series
19 Max jpg's in a serie

Scandisk 2GB ultra II sd
32,5s Time needed for 20 raw images (20MB each)
15s Time for 20 jpg's in series
29 Max jpg's in a serie

Scandisk 4GB ultra III sdhc
31,3s Time needed for 20 raw images (20MB each)
13,9s Time for 20 jpg's in series
32 Max jpg's in a serie

They did the test also with a Nikon D90,
and their result was that they didn't see any reason to get a scandisk ultra III card because the difference with the ultra II was to less.
And they advised the Kingston 4GB type 4 sdhc as best value.
hope it helps

Ronny

using ... pfff ... extreme II sdhc 4Gb, 8Gb , extreme III sd 2Gb
and a few slow sdhc from scandisk of 4Gb just in case the top isn't enough.

Going to get me a few 16Gb (extreme II sdhc for the summer holiday, only 12 days and don't want to carry my laptop with me.

cheers

Ronny
