Default Zoo Portraits

I spent a couple of hours this afternoon at the Little Rock Zoo. The best shots I came back with were all portraits taken with the Bigma (by no means, all at full extension). The day started out cloudy and wound up sunny, low 90's, and very humid. The black rhinos are normally not so easy to photograph on hot days as they tend to go back in their cool building.

This lioness was resting in a little cave where she could get some shade, but was willing to stick her head out for a portrait.

The zoo has a pair of Malayan tigers. They weren't as bothered by the heat, but were generally not in a particularly good mood; both were on a rapid prowl

The chimps at the zoo have been through a difficult year, as the matriarch of the chimp band died earlier this year at an advanced age. This is one of the older females who has been thrust into a leadership role.

Far and away, though, my favorite portraits of the day were of the gorillas. I'm going to give them their own thread.

Paul

Magnificent animals, well captured, my favourite is the Lioness, but I am a cat lover.

Rodney.

Paul

I am alternating between the lion and the tiger as fav's.

The lion because of the stripe of sun over it's nose,
The tiger because of the green in front of it making it look more in a natural
environment.

All great shots

Ronny

You really seem to have taken to the 50-500

All good clean shots, of which I pick the tiger as my favourite

Closely followed by the rhino

Hi Paul, all good shots but the lioness has a bit of blue cast. Were you shooting through glass or was she lit by light coming through glass?
Love that tiger shot in particular!
cheers

You are correct on both counts. I was shooting through glass and picked up the slight tint. I went back this morning and had another go at getting rid of it. I've reposted the new edit.
