like the others said, you just didn't have enough ambient light for the settings used, I don't think its the fault of the camera or lens.

I still think there is too much noise even with low light especially at 100 iso, but as I said, maybe I'm being to fussy.

Maybe it is some digital equivalent of the reciprocity failure we used to get with film under similar conditions?
