I agree with Paul. There are simply too many situations where 2.8 isn't good enough. Paul mentioned sports - which can certainly be an instance where it may not be good enough (shooting indoor sports with f2.8 I'm using ISOs of 3200 and 6400). Another situation is my toddler son indoors. No way was 2.8 fast enough - oftentimes f1.8 isn't good enough. In those situations, flash is a must.

There is also the issue of DOF - sometimes you want 2 people to be in focus - that can require f5.6 type apertures - which again means that flash, not high isos and wide apertures - is the better solution.

So, what situations are you planning on using the lens for? And what camera body are you going to use?

Indoor sports may be...but mostly indoor theater, orchestra etc...where the hum of the autofocus may be annoying. How noisy is the Sigma Paul and In your opinion what are you thoughts of the IQ of the lens. Seems like most sat the Tammy is better.
