Default A Capitol Fourth

I had a wonderful Independence Day! I hope all of you did, too. I spent the day sitting on the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, DC. I told my friend (and DC host) that I wanted to attend the "concert" at the Capitol that I read about online. She said okay, so on the 4th we headed out there. After standing in line for about 1.5 hours and getting through security, we found our spot and settled in to wait.

Since we got onto the lawn at about 4:30-ish, we had several hours to wait (Michael Jackson's Greatest Hits helped, LOL), as the concert didn't start until 8pm. These are the pics I took while waiting, and afterwards during the fireworks show. I'm putting the link to my Flickr account because I didn't want to put 14 large pics up. Oh, by the way, that "concert" was actually "A Capitol Fourth" and it was broadcast LIVE on PBS.

It looked like your vantage point was excellent which made for some great compositions! However, I think a tripod would have come in real handy!!

Looks like your Capital shots were worth the wait.

Great show - I watched it on TV. I love your first picture, and most of the fireworks are pretty good (though while they might have been better with a tripod, looking at the crowd around you, you probably wouldn't have been able to use one). You were lucky to be there.

Thanks! I had a great time. I got to sing along with Big Bird and Elmo and dance to Barry Manilow!

Thanks. A tripod would have been really handy, but it wasn't an option.

I'm going to try to find the show online, so I can watch from a better vantage point, LOL. Thanks for the compliments. You're right, a tripod wasn't an option, and even if it was I wouldn't have been able to use it. People were shoulder to shoulder and the Capitol Police were testy.
