"Pictures are to be sized 800 pixels on their longest side"

How do you do this for the monthly challenge?

What do you use for image editing software? There are some great programs for free download, such as GIMP, with full edit function.

If you have Photoshop, go to save for web, choose image size and type in your number, then save. Check the total kbs also for this site. There are limits there also.

I use http://www.zenfolio.com/ for hosting my photos. you can get a free 30 day trial but, the upgrade for $40 per year is well worth the money.
I upload a photo 8x10 200mgpix resolution, tif, makes a 11mg file. you can then choose what size file (from a list of available sizes) that you want to post. it works quite well.

PS. That's after using Photoshop for editing and that's where I size it also.

I upload using the attachments function here on the forum directly from my PC. I post a lot of photos with a long side size of 1024 but always keep my file size down to below 230kb's. Example below.

I use one of the photoshop programs for resizing (PSE works as well as CS4 by the way). I'm another person who uses zenfolio to host photo albums, I think it's excellent value and easy to use. So I often will get lazy and upload my screen-saver versions to zenfolio and let it resize down for posting here. And there have been times when I've wanted to show something that can only been seen in the original file size, so I'll upload the full sized file to zenfolio and just post a link here for people to see what I'm talking about.

P.S. There are other photo hosting sites that can do the same types of things. I just found zenfolio easier to figure out and seemed I got more for my money with it, but many use pbase or smugmug. And there are some free photo hosting sites (though there's disadvantages to them, too).

Well, as you can see from this inquiry, I wasn't kidding about my VERY limited PP skills. Off to try this now.

Thanks for the replies.

Looks great to me! If you are looking for a very simple and free photo editing software (and if yours is a windows computer), you might want to look into Irfanview. It does not work on my mac, but I've heard some great things about it...

Gimp is a free photo editing software, rather complex but does all that I need, that works on windows, mac and linux.
