Default my K10D is broken, what to do?

I sent it in to Pentax and it will be $300 to have it fixed (parts, labor, tax, and shipping).

Question is; do I just scrap the K10D and upgrade (if so to what?) or do I put $300 into my 2 year old K10D?

What to do...

Default Upgrade

With the price of a K20D these days, I would upgrade. I've seen the K20D camera body only for as little $539, brand new from an authorized dealer. I don't think you can go wrong by upgrading, but you certainly might not get the results you want from a repair that costs over $300. Just my 2 cents.

Definitely upgrade if the money is there. At $300 it's half the cost of a new K20, and then you'll still have an older camera. If you want to add video, get the K-7 but I think the K20 is the best buy right now. I found the K20 a significant upgrade from the K10, well worth doing.

I can only agree with the advice above.

My K100D started acting up recently, and I just upgraded to the K20D. I really wanted the K7, but the K20 is such a remarkable value, I went for it. I figure in another year or two the K7 will come down in price. Admittedly, your K10 is a much better camera than my K100, but I'm very glad I upgraded.

Sorry to hear your K10 is broken. I'd say, if you have the extra funds, go for the K20. I doubt you'll regret it. The K-7 looks mighty nice, but I'm like mtnman and want to wait. Especially since my K20 is only 8 mos old.

Good luck. Patty

I sent my K10D in for repair nearly 2 years ago..If I had it to do today I'd get a K20D instead. The cost is just too good to pass up.

You might contact Camera Clearance Center on ebay. This is the Wolf/Ritz clearance store and they are an authorized Pentax dealer. I purchased my K10D from them a while back, which is now my back up camera. They are in Fort Worth and I know them personally. They are good people. You can call 800-475-3522 and ask for Bob and see if they have anymore K20's coming in. The last 2 they sold went for $539, which seems to be a smokin' price to me.

i, and many others have upgraded to the k20.. what's nice is we got it for half the cost.. if you can get the k7 but it just doesn't offer that much of an upgrade to me.
