Default First test: K-7 & 500mm F6.3 Rokinon mirror

I just received my 500mm F6.3 Rokinon mirror lens today and tested it with my K-7 in HD video mode handheld with SR on at close range of 6 ft and about 300 ft.

On Vimeo you could download the 208mb HD video AVI file for the next week if anyone is interested to look at the original 1536x1024 M-JPEG HD Video.

I'm impressed with the image quality. I've been curious about those lenses.

Some people don't like mirrors because of the donut shaped out of focus circles that sometimes appear in the background, but I have never found it objectionable. I own a Minolta 500mm AF mirror which is left over from film days. It is the only AF model made, so I bought a Sony a350 to use it with, as it is faster focusing than their older models. I need AF because I like to shoot hand held. I recall that I had posted something here before in a discussion of mirror lenses with a reference when the threads were new and grouped together, but they are now scattered and buried. and I don't think you have seen them - at least there are no comments from you (or any of the Pentax regulars who don't frequent the Wildlife forum) on any of the threads, so here are a half dozen of them. They are the first taken with the camera which was still unfamiliar at the time, and using only default settings so there could still have been room for improvement. Anyway, if you are interested in seeing some more examples of what such a lens is capable of, take a look.

Hey, thanks Pen,
I do remember seeing "the world upside down" and not sure why I didn't post a reply to it. I'm thinking I may have and then forgot to hit the "post" button.

That one really cracked me up!
those are pretty good pix, looks like the 500mm mirror isn't to bad of a deal considering the cost compared to a prime or even a Bigma.

Real pleasing results.

Got a mirror lens, only when going out I never take it with me.
These shot's might get me to use it more.

Thanks for posting

Ronny
