Default Targa West rally

yesterday my son talked me into going to the Targe west tarmac rally
a road rally held in stages through the countryside outside of Perth
I have never been before so didnt know what to expect
my impression of the event is it isnt for spectators
there was very limited viewing, with only one corner being available at each stage
and then there were signs, ribbons, fences, trees, and rally mashalls in the way, plus it rained all day (its still winter ) so there was a sea of spectators umbrellas
(and it really tested the k10d's and the da f4 300mms weather proofing)
here are a few shots, most are heavily cropped to remove distractions

Ford falcon 351 GT

Holden dealer team GTR XU1 Torana

KJC Jaguar

Lotuse Elise

I am still editing photos
so there are more on my site

the official site has some good photos

They came out very nicely, especially considering the conditions. Well done!

I tried Targa Tasmania once, found the same issues you mention and have never bothered again so far.

Still they are good shots and isn't the weather proofing a must for outdoor photography.

You did good, considering. My son's tried to get me to go to some rally here in NH, but I suspect it would be like this. You have to get the one spot on each curve or you can forget it.

thanks for the comments guys
Phil, i had thought the Tassie one was a big event with lots of spectators
i have only seen it on TV(and Eric Banners docco about when he crashed his Ford)
I cant see myself going back to see this again, especially in the rain
it was slightly humourous watching the lengths people went to to keep there equipment dry, i am pretty sure that is what the umbrellas were really for

Patty i cant complain about value for money, it was a free event and it was cool to see some of the cars (like the lotus, ferrari, old Fords and Holdens) being driven rather aggresivly, even if they were gone pretty quick, so even if i didnt get a photo there was an element of fun and like golf (1 game) i can now add it to my "done list" lol (there were a few to many turbo charged shopping cars though sigh)

Great action shots! The third shot of the Jag coming over the hill with the smoke behind it is a powerful image. You did a nice job in spite of all the obstacles.
