Default Some holiday pictures - Rhodos old city

Been last weeks in Rhodos, Greece.

All folowing pictures are with a k20d, and tamron 18-200. (broke my cpl on the airplane so the blues are a bit pale.)

A view off the old city from the harbour

What I found really impressive is the ancient city wall, and the defence works around the old city.
They are almost 5km long and are in great condition.

The main gate is build in multiple layers.

A view from inside the castle.

A night shot to finish this series

Hope you liked them

Cheers

Ronny

Thanks GW

Wish I knew, it was in the front of my carry on luggage and after arriving, the glass was broken in half. There was some frost on the bag something I never have seen before.
At least I can get a better one now

Ronny

Very nice Ronny..always enjoy the travels that are shared on this forum. All area great compositions, but I especially like #6 "View from inside the castle"): the shadows and view through the arches make it a "stand out." Also, are those stars I see in the sky on the last image (night shot)? That is great detail.

Sorry to hear about your CPL...lesson is never to put any of your photo gear in checked baggage!

when was this built??
we have absolutely nothing like this in the states..
we fail to see that our history only goes back 3-400 years..

Terrific travel photos! The last one with the night sky is stunning. Makes me want to visit Greece.

Thanks Jelpee,

and yes those are stars, the lighting of the old city was very low so I could get those stars in the shot.

Another night shot that I'm really happy with is this one of the city walls, same as nr2 but then at night.

The first walls where build around the 7th century, and then upgraded with each conquerer until the 13th century.

The castle itself was build within the city wall around the 13th century.

For Greece that are 'new buildings'
