Default A brief jaunt up Holston Mountain

Had a chance to take some College Students on a brief jaunt up Holston Mt and out to Flint Rock today. Not so much time for photography, but here are a few scenes along the way.
Autumn is definitely arriving in the mountains when the Asters begin blooming.

Have had fewer than usual butterflies this year - perhaps due to the cooler and damper summer. But we did get some nice views of Buckeyes and Fritillaries. Am especially curious what you think of the "FIF" (fritillary in flight) shot - obviously not clear and sharp for identification, but...

Since several folks have expressed interest in our bur cucumber vines, and since I have already posted views of the leaves/tendrils and the tiny flowers, here are the near-ripe fruits.

For many of the young hikers, this was the high point of the hike. We did not approach closely enough for really good photographs, or I might not be posting here today! He was about 4.5 feet and stretched out in a very shady spot on the trail. Isn't he cute!!

Sure do hope & pray that all have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend. And hope to see you "out on the trail" someday soon!

Wonderful, mole. I really like the first butterfly one at the angle.

Those are really some great macros Mole. I think my favorite is the Aster, you did a great job with the DOF on a shot from an angle. What set up are you using for your macro work?
