Default Vacation Day 2... lots of pix

I'm starting to get my pix sorted in chronological order and will post them that way to help me from getting confused as to what I've posted and what I haven't.

Day one, we drove up to Atlanta and spent the night with Linda's cousin. we were tired from driving all day so we just visited and then retired. Slept in late and after getting up and around, we headed for Stone Mountain Park (just missed Big Dawg by about 24 hrs.)
All pix were taken with the 12-24mm except where noted.

It was about 3:15 when we got there so we knew we could not see everything before closing but, we made the best of it. the sky was starting to look like rain but, nobody seemed to pay any attention...

We made our way out to the viewing deck... They had the path ways blocked off for something special coming up and were erecting some kind of scaffolding in the foreground. The history behind this monument is quite amazing, it began before Mnt. Rushmore but wasn't completed until 1964.
first was with the 12-24. next with the 55-300 @ 55mm- 150mm and 300mm

Here are a few shots of the sky ride taking folks to the top. I really wanted to go but, I didn't feel like shelling out $18 for the rid after paying $10 for parking and $2.53 for a Coke at the gift shop!

The museum was quite nice and informative. The only problem was everything was behind Plexiglas and glare was pretty apparent in most of the pix. First is a topical display of the park, some of which was flooded from recent heavy rains.

A wagon showing granite being hauled from the quarry

Next are some artifacts from the period...

The printing press in the foreground is just a slight bit more primitive than the one I use at work.

I'd love to own some of these!

Check out the funky triger on this one...

I apologies for the dark images, lighting was difficult.

Momma didn't have it much easier with the tools of the day either...

We got 2 or 3 drops of rain as we were leaving but I had to get a couple shots of the granite and daisies before leaving.

Hope you enjoyed the trip so far.

Thank you, GW. Wonderful trip.

It sure has changed since I lived there 20+ years ago. We used to go to Stone Mountain to watch the laser shows. If I remember right, they were every Friday night. And, I used to take my stepsons to the beach every day during the summer. We'd be scrambling for cover every afternoon as the thunderstorms would hit.

Thanks for the memories.

Patty

Looks like you had a fun holiday, especially after seeing that pumpkin shot, a very nice series.

Nice vacation photos GW. I have only seen Stone Mt. from an Airplane window. Now you have taken me there through your photos!

Thanks for the nice series!
