Default Pond Mt Wilderness: Waterfalls

Headed up to Pond Mt Wilderrness today, in hopes of some great views from Potato Top. It was a gorgeous foggy drizzly day in the mts, but too foggy for photographing the views.

So we decided to visit some of the waterfalls in the Wilderness. Autumn is usually not waterfall season - since it is our driest season. But this has been the wettest autumn in a long time, and all the falls are running well.

There are lots of a little waterfalls on the Coon Den Falls trail, here's one of the prettiest.

Not sure why it's called Coon Den Falls, but it is a very interesting waterfall. The upper portion has carved out a deep narrow gap in the rock, and the lower portion fans out to a wider spray. It's about 50' high, and flowing quite well today!

Which of the two side views do you prefer?

The loveliest waterfall in the Pond Mt Wilderness is Laurel Falls. The AT passes right by it, and it's a busy, popular swimming hole in the summer. But we had it to ourselves this cool autumn day. Here are four views, which do you prefer?

Pond Mt Wilderness is also rich in geology, flora and fauna. Hope to return soon to search for and photo/record more of these aspects of the wilderness area.

Hope you enjoyed the hike as much as I did. Thanks for any comments or suggestions!

If forced to pick just one it is #1, but I agree with Rodney they are all winners!

Great series Mole. Of Coon Den Falls I prefer shot #1, nice leading line that takes my eye all the way from bottom to top of the frame. Among the Laurel Falls shots it is harder to choose, I lean towards #1 and #4.
