I do use curves sometimes and I know how it works, no need to explain. And I do use levels aswell. I just played with this photo a little bit and came with something similar to mtngal try. It's the most I can da and be happy with it.

Thanks for all your advice and comments. It's very nice to see how we all look at the photos differently.

here's my try. It's still bleak and not very colourful, just like in reality, but a bit less flat than the original.

Very beautiful open countryside. It's nice to see.

I've often struggled with how much pp to do to a photo, too. I do find, though, that I end up making levels adjustments on most of my photos because I never get the exposure right the first time. I tend to go on the principal that if you could do it in a darkroom, it's okay to do on the computer. Other than that, I struggle with. Although, sometimes find myself doing.

Just my 2 cents worth.

one of the dilemmas of photograph accuracy of the scene, or make it look good
and i guess its a case of each to his own
you cant please everybody so you got to please yourself, or something like that
i always put my post processing down to a lack of my ability to get my camera set right

where abouts in England was it? (being an ex Lancashire lad )
it looks a nice place for a ramble
i like the "scruffy" look of the first one and the inclusion of a person for scale
