Default Wide format printer...

We have been making some major changes and up grades at work lately.
besides getting two new digital presses, one black only and the other a color system, we also got a 24'' laminating machine and a wide format printer.

Not your usual consumer printer...
HP Z3100
44'' wide and as long as you can get in a roll of paper.
it takes 12 ink cartridges at a cost of $960 for the lot!
I can't wait to get a shot of something that I feel is worthy of a photo this size. Boss said as long as I buy the paper....

Its a little hard to tell the size of this thing in the photo but, its roughly 5ft wide and stands about 3ft high.

Wow! We have one at work, but there's no way we can use it for personal use. I asked a few years ago about printing out a family tree.

So, you have to pay for the paper, but not the ink. I'd think they'd say the other way around. But, I guess both are expensive.

Large format paper isn't cheap, even bond for electrostatic copiers. 44" is really something - work has a couple of large format color plotters but nothing wider than 36" (normal architectural drawing size - works great for 24x36 or 36x48 sized drawings). Someday I hope to take something good enough to print 36" wide, but until then I'll stick with letter size. I can barely afford that!

Yes, but this is the kicker here. the new
'Ricoh Pro C900s" I can plug in my sdhc card and print right off that.
this one will print r speeds of up to 90ppm Output black-and-white and colo
Standard Print/Copy/Scan capabilities on the C900s
The Ricoh Pro C900s holds 2,500 sheets in the standard configuration and up to 11,000 sheets with optional paper supplies
Standard 2GB RAM with a 500GB Hard Disk Drive
1,200 x 1,200dpi printing resolution
Maximum paper size of 13” x 19.2” with optional accessories
The Pro C900s handles heavy media weights—up to 110 lb. Cover through the 13" x 19.2" Large Capacity Tray—without slowing down, so you can reduce turnaround time for direct mail, Variable Data Printing (VDP) and other applications that require heavier media

And the photos come off looking good too, even on plain matted stock. so, once I get a handle on this machine I'll probably be doing some practicing.

i use a similar but older HP at work, prints on 60" wide paper, so i could print to 2181mm x 1450mm (if i had a decent shot lol)
it only use 6 colours though CMYK light magenta and light cyan
what extra colours do you use?
i did do a test once at 1450mm wide and that looked ok using a photo from my old ds
let us know how your print goes
the paper we use is a semigloss, but it can be hot gloss laminated if needed

Wait for that special shot and wait for the boss' day off. Then it's free!

It certainly looks like the same printer they have over at Costco. I was dropping off some ink cartridges to be refillled and watched a large 20x30" image come off. I looked down on the counter and saw their price sheet with the 20x30 at $8.99. I remarked that I didn't know that they did that. The response was sure, submit it on line (JPG), and then come by and pick it up!

So if you have a Costco near by - give them a try. If not I don't know if they do mail or not.

... and no I do not work or Costco nor am I a stockholder...
