Default Mysterious Munchers

I have been occupied with a project over the last several weeks and haven't had much time to spend on the forums - I've not commented on many of the fine pictures you all have posted. I did make time to photograph these creepy crawlies at the beginning of this month when my wife discovered them and summoned me outside to document their presence, but have not been able to get around to post any of them until now. I had no idea who they are, but not for lack of trying.* They were gregarious and enwrapped in a fine web not noticed until the pictures were downloaded. Since that time, they have stripped the leaves from the lupine they were feeding on, and have dispersed for parts unknown. Taken with the K20D; No.2 was with the Tamron 70-300 Macro, and the rest with the Tamron SP 90 macro.

* Now identified as Genista Broom Moth caterpillars, Uresiphita reversalis.

Interesting collection of caterpillar pictures. They are interesting, though the moth they turn into is rather bland looking. I've never noticed them before.

Spiny little creatures, aren't they? Nice capturing.

Default Not sure? Splendid pics though.

The pictures are just as wonderful as I would expect from you, Pen. But you did put your status as my nature science idol at risk by not knowing on the spot what they were. You saved it on the goal line with you follow up!

Thanks all for the nice words.

Sorry to disappoint you, Kjell, but nobody in perfect - all of our heros eventually prove to have feet of clay!
