Good luck on your shopping trip, hope to see some good pix when you get back.

I would suggest you go ahead and download the latest firmware and install it.
their web site will tell you how to do it and how to check what version you have currently. have fun!

To check your firmware version, hold down the menu key as you turn the camera on - it will briefly flash which version it is. Bet it's 1.0, Pentax usually always ships with the basic firmware, even when there's been updates.

Here's a link to the update page that I just used: http://www.pentax.jp/english/support/digital/k-7_s.html . Some claim it's slightly different than the version 1.02 that came out a while ago - I don't know if that's true or not, but it's the version I'm running in my K-7 (installed last weekend) and I haven't had any trouble with it. You can go directly to this version from whatever is installed in your camera. Follow directions - it isn't hard, doesn't take long but you do have to do it correctly.
