Default Red Shouldered Hawk

On my way home from lunch yesterday, a red shouldered hawk flew in front of the car and came to rest in a tree next to the road. I was surprised when he let me take several shots through an opened car window (I had reason to curse the low roof line of a Malibu as I tried to get the lens pointed upward and my eye to the VF) Lighting conditions were not good...overcast and slightly foggy.

I picked up quite a bit of noise in upping levels on the second shot, but left it in in the interest of sharper detail.

Paul

Edit--I decided I didn't like the second photo either, so I replaced it.

Paul - first shot it great - wonderful rendition of the delicate colors and textures. I find the noise in #2 a bit distracting, but others may disagree.

Nice Red Shouldered Hawk! Fine detail and a wonderful specimen.

Glad you removed and replaced the second shot the noise was too harsh. I like the replacement shot a lot.

LOL... I was just picturing you trying to get that shot... I wish I had a shot of you trying to shoot from your car!

I've been away for a few days so I never saw the original (noisy) second shot. But the two that are posted now are both great!

That may be the reason the hawk stayed as long as he did, laughing to see the big fat human trying to scrunch low enough to get behind the viewfinder. My wife has one of the new style Malibus, and I love driving it, but the door lines are low for a big man.
