Default Grazing woodstorks

This shot didn't turn out as well as I hoped. The sun was quite harsh, hard to keep from blowing out the highlights but, thought it was good enough to share just for fun. I haven't seen to many of these posted here.

An old time "Florida Cracker" I used to know said the locals called them Arnhaids (= Ironheads - you have to see the skin on their featherless heads close up to appreciate that). I saw one my first year in California (I was so familiar with them from Florida and I didn't know how unusual that was) and there hadn't been another seen in coastal California until this year. Nice to see these.

Thank you Pen, Yes they really have a thick wrinkled leathery skin around there head and necks. The only word I can think of to describe them is "Ugly" bird, makes you think that God must have a sense of humor.

Really cool shots, GW. I've never seen these birds before and would love to see more. Good job with handling the very difficult white feathers.

Thank you both,
I have a few more, I'll have to see if they are worth posting.

Picture is quite good, you can sure see how ugly they are. Just like the California Condors.

Thanks Guys,
I think the wood-stork, condor and vultures are all related in the ugly department!

You sure have some great looking birds down there to photograph, nothing up here but Ravens and Chickadee's.
