Default Opinion Please

After last weeks record cold spell, this week was really nice. about 5:30 I decided to go to the lake and take some night pics. one of the shots I thought looked interesting was this one looking towards downtown across the lake .

Which one of the three looks best in your opinion?

#1. straight from the camera. The only edit was size and frame.

#2. I used the "curves" adjustment to darken the black.

#3. I used curves again to darken just the bottom half of photo and played with overall tone a little again only on the lower half.

I like number 3, number 2 is to dark in the sky in my opinion.

I like #3 (the shadows seem a little more open) just a smidgen more than #1, #2 is too dark for my taste. U did a super job on the capture original though.

#3, the reflections on the water contrast better.

#3 GW. And don't feel bad about the cold, it's cold here in Buffalo every day.

The differences are pretty subtle, but I'd go 3, 1, 2 as well.

I'm not going to disagree, #2 does seem too dark over-all and while that's sometimes great for emphasizing the lights, I don't think it works all that well here. I'd go with #3, too.

Hey GW,
On my monitor the difference between #1 and #3 is very subtle, I like both better than #2 though. Which lake is this, out of curiousity? At first I thought it might be Lake Elbert near Polk Community College but I don't think that is it.

Very interesting comparison. I won't buck the trend, will vote for #3 as well.

Thank you guys,
I have to agree with you all. I just needed confirmation that my judgment was right. Yes the difference is subtle between 1 & 3. only the lower portion was changed, the sky was let alone and I wasn't sure if I made it better or not. Thanks for the feed back!

Hey Tim! long time no see. hope you're doing well.
This is Lake Howard from the west looking south east
.
the shot was 2sec @ f:9.5 190mm. the horizontal yellow streak you see in the middle near the water line is the headlights of a car driving by.
