Default Green & Wet (& just one bird)

All the snowmelt and good steady rains make for fun but muddy hiking these days. Yesterday I had a chance to walk out to Millstone Creek Falls for a short wintry hike. It was great to see how much green life is thriving despite the cold, and thanks to all the moisture. Here is a Corydalis, some Polypody Fern, and a Spleenwort fern - all full of winter wetness!

Millstone Creek is on private property, but the owners are glad to let hikers come enjoy their waterfall, as long as we are careful to keep the landscape clean.

It's about 30 feet high, and usually not more than a lovely trickle. But thanks to this fine wet winter, it was running quite well yesterday!

(Which of these views do you prefer?)

When the sun came back out briefly, the Mockingbirds sure were out enjoying all that warmth - perhaps drying out after all the wet days? This one was pretty patient with the strange man pointing lenses at him!

Mockingbirds are very aggressive in defending their berry thickets - they have to be sure their berries last until spring! Here's a closer crop of the second photo above - Do you prefer the original, or the cropped photo?

Today I had a chance to hike out to Kiner Creek Falls, another waterfall that is usually a trickle, but not today! Hope to have some time to sort these photos and post them soon.

Hope you enjoyed this little stroll out to Millstone Creek!

Great series Mole!
Boy, when you ask for opinions you don't make it easy.

For the falls... I think #2 and #5.
For the mocking bird, #2 over #3 because it tells more of a story although it shows great detail in #3.

Nice series. And nice color for January. Our January colors are black and white... mostly white.

Falls.... I like 2, 4, and 5.
Bird.... I like 2 the best.

Nice series. The #5 falls, as I liked seeing the continuation of the water flow. I like the
cropped Mockingbird best. Great detail and depth of field.

Hi mole,

Another terrific series!!!

Of the falls shots, I like #5 and then #2.

As for the Mockingbird, I'm partial to bird portraits, so I like the crop. I'm still fascinated by the facial details of birds, probably because it's a perspective that I can't normally see. You certainly nailed the focus on this one!

Nice, as always, mole.

I like #5 on the waterfalls. Like seeing the full length of it.

On the bird, I think I'd like a crop between the two.
