What a wonderful series! Such an amazing range of blooms, all captured so sharply and clearly.

Lovely photos Lou (esp. 1st and last). Nice idea re. diffuser - I've been debating what to create as a cheapo solution. I'll try that !

A while back one of our contributors suggested cutting out a flap from the side of one of those translucent Fuji 35mm film canisters and fitting it over the built-in flash head - his sample photos looked good. I have two of different opacities set aside, but haven't gotten around to making the cuts yet. I usually one or two thicknesses of a handkerchief or piece of white paper over the flash head. The built-in flash works well for closeups as long as the lens isn't long enough to throw a shadow. Otherwise I use my Sigma 500 in bounce mode with a small plastic StoFen slip-on diffuser - inexpensive but useful (in bounce mode as well as direct).

Thanks Jelpee, I'm thinking of making a photo collage of them. Glad you enjoyed!

Patty I looked back and don't know what I was referring to myself. Must have been another senior moment.

Thanks Paul, the waxy ones had just a bit more catch light than I would like to see but I agree the flash did do these justice. There was another photographer there with two Sony SLR's and both had ring flash. I would have liked to see his pictures to compare the lighting.

Mole- Thanks for the nice comments. Glad you liked them.

Frogfish and Penolta- Here is a picture of my 99 cent diffuser. I use 2 small pieces of Velcro to hold it in place.

Looks good - amazing that the bottle fits so well. Too bad you can't patent it!

Yours looks so much more professional than my coffee filter, held on with a rubber band!
