Default More Orchid Show (12 pictures)

I had more time at the show than Patty but could not use a tripod. All shots were with flash. On the waxy flowers the flash was a spoiler but the flowers were so unusual I felt that I would show them anyhow.

All PP was done on a laptop as I am away from home for a few days and I hope they are OK.

All shots with Vivitar 105mm macro and K-7 in raw, ISO 250. I hope you enjoy them!

Lou,

These are great. Much better than mine came out. Did you find you had to use the flash on all shots? I wasn't having much luck even with the ones that there was the studio lighting setups.

The fourth one down is the one I bought.

Very nicely done! Did you use some type of diffuser on the flash?

Patty, I had to use flash as the Viv 105 at 2.8 has a very shallow depth of field. Most of my pictures were taken at F16.

I was wondering about the last picture, as I did not reckognise the Orchid as one I saw in the exhibit. We have a poor exposure in our home for growing so we skipped the sellers altogether.

Harriet, thanks . Yes I do have something you could call a diffuser. I bought a cheap bottle of alcohol for 99 cents and cut the bottom off and it fits perfectly over my flash and is as much diffuser as I will ever need. As a matter of fact it weights almost nothing and I think it is excellent. I never take it off the flash.

I have a Sunpack 383 Supper that I paid $25 for on Craigs List and I love it.

You did good Lou! Very pretty.
I really like the last one with the black background.

Lou, I had only taken the 50mm/1.4 and the Zenitar as they were the fastest lenses I had. I should have thought to bring my macros, but I hadn't packed the night beofre like I should have and was half asleep packing my bag. I used my flash unit on shots away from the flowers, but the ones I used the Z on I was too close. So, they didn't really come out.

I didn't notice anyone from the club. But, there may have been.

I'm not getting your comment on the last one you didn't see at the show???

Exquisite lighting and details Lou! Beautiful compositions as well. These images would make nice catalog or calendar!

Lou, a beautiful set of shots. I really like what the flash gave you, even, or maybe even particularly, on the waxy varieties. It gives the photos a very unique feel. Some great work.

All excellent, but the third and last are particularly effective on the black background. Nicely done.
