Default bike race

this was the first bike race i have ever attended
so taking photos was a bit of an experiment
this one was with my old manual 50mm
i cant recall the f stop but i am sure i had it wide enough to give a good depth of field
then used focus trap to fire the shutter

i took more but havent got them on my web site yet

For that sort of light, ISO 100 and 1/1600s you were probably at about f4 (at a guess).

As a first bike race it looks like you are off to a good start. As you were limited to only 50mm I would probably have gone landscape (not a normal suggestion for bikes, but you have a lot of dead space and could have then brought some extra interest in from the trailing riders.

Did you get to play with some slower shutter shots to bring in motion blur?

Looking forward to seeing more, and if you want to get more eyes from the sports shooters do please visit the sport/action section as it's always good to see something different in there.

Pretty nice for a first try, John.
Not a criticism of your shooting skills (
because you can't control what's in the background) but, if you cloned out the traffic light and signs it would look even better.

John, hope you don't mind, I did a quick edit to see how it would look.
Of course you could do better with the original file.

I like the pix very much...corner action with lead biker looking forward...nice glint of sun. I think Goldwing's editing is top notch...improves the picture by removing the poles...I think the pix might even look a bit better with the tree branch removed from the picture.

With a 50 mm...I'm impressed.....The pix ...modded by GW is quite impressive...reminds me of an pix in a brochure advertising bike races...I still think it would improve a bit more with the tree branch removed...but excellent picture.

I like that GW...it does look better with the tree taken out...could be a good cover shot.

As far as there being anything else...leave it with me over night. If I think of anything I'll get my people to contact your people.
