Beautiful pictures, as always Mole. Do you know which critter ate the leaves of the Rattlesnake Orchid? And I must confess, I have absolutely no idea why it has that name. Everyone else may know, but I'm clueless. Please tell me.

Lou - Thanks!

Mtnman - Glad you liked them. Not sure who ate the Orchid leaves - there are several kinds of caterpillars that enjoy them. The name comes from the pattern on the leaves - supposed to look a bit like snake skin. Perhaps you've heard of the "doctrine of signatures," a belief that the Creator "signed" each useful plant to let us know that it was good for. For example, since Rattlesnake Orchid looks like snake skin, it must be good for treating snake bite... (personally, I would prefer the hospital - but that option was not available to the early settlers.)
