These were shot with the 55-300 @ 210 and 230mm respectively. I was about 20ft away in the first and maybe 30ft in the second one. I don't worry about getting too close, if one decides to go after me I just drop the camera and run like hell! I may not be able to out run him but, I know I can out run my wife so, I should be OK.
I love it, I learn something new coming here each day. Note to myself: When shooting dangerous wildlife bring slow wife with you. GREAT

Being one of those slow wives you guys are talking about, I'll have to remember not to go on those types of trips. My husband already left me once in the Sequoia Mountains for a few hours years ago. When he hadn't come back in about 30 minutes I started out on the trail by myself. Luckily I had the topo maps with me. There were a lot of forks in the trail I had to decide which way to go. We have differing stories on why he was gone so long. We were either not married yet or just newly married. I should have known then!
