Ned - Thanks for your kind and specific comments. Always a big help! And yes, it is great to see beginnings of spring's return (although we had some snow in the mts last night!)

Patty - Thanks for the feedback! Yes, that's a Bluejay - bluebirds are smaller, and males are bright blue on the back, reddish on the front (for example: http://forums.steves-digicams.com/wildlife-photos/166392-bluebirds.html). Other two birds are song sparrow and white-throated sparrow. Both singing like crazy here these days, although the white-throated sparrows will be leaving us to head up north to your region very soon. (Hopefully they will be bringing spring to you with them!)

Dr. Dustin - Thanks so much for your kind words and helpful input. And CONGRATULATIONS on your successful completion of your PhD!! Now perhaps you will have some time for a "real life" too!!

The second flower with the creamy bokeh is very nice. The birds are sharp and nicely posed. Nice series!

Despite the rainy weather a nice series showing the renewal of spring. The snow has finally all melted here and it's been sunny and relatively warm for this time of year. Saw some robins for the first time this year a couple days ago so spring is definitely on it's way here. But I'm really enjoying the sun and blue skies the last couple weeks. Winter has been keeping that away from me for too long.

Lou - Thanks so much! Those flowers are really tiny (less than 1/4"), so it's not too hard to get them mostly in focus...

GS - Thanks!

MadMike - Isn't it exciting to see and anticipate all the spring signs!

Gumnut - Thanks for your kind words! Would love to see some of your recent Autumn photos. Will certainly post more of our springtime ones soon...

ah, SPRING!! i'm excited too!
i love the harbinger pics, i think i asked you what they look like, so thanks!
(i hope you don't mind, i made one of them the picture of the Warriors Path State Park facebook page, in celebration of spring. if you mind, tell me and i'll take it down.)

i love the bluejay. he looks so full of himself, somehow.
i want to say that i like the second harbinger picture the best, but then the other two give such a good scale, with the leaf in the background.
(you're getting too good for me, i have no useful comments for you : ) )
