Default New small bird photos.

Spring has arrived here in North Alabama, and the flocks of black birds and starlings have arrived.

Very nicely done, Ed/Bigdawg-

What lens did you use?

Nice photos, Ed! Tell you the truth, I cannot remember what month I saw any birds here in Finland... I know that they are around... but just don't see them... Don't blame them, it's been so cold for so long... Was 8 degrees this morning... went out for a walk, the snow gave out from under me... it is deep, as you can see in the photo I uploaded today... nice to see these bird pictures. Have a pleasant Spring. Ned

Wow! Never seen that many house finches at once. I'll get the occasional pair, but never more than two at a time.

Nicely shot.

Some really fine photos, despite the less than ideal lighting conditions. Looks like your feeders are still "paying" you well in good feathered friends, and great photographs!

Nice group of Purple Finches - interesting that they are all males - any females around? Males of many songbirds migrate North ahead of the females to establish their territories before their prospective mates arrive.

One of the Cowbirds in the first photo looks pretty beat up. Not my favorite birds, since they are nest parasites, replacing other bird's eggs with their own, to be raised by the foster parents. Since they spread west out of the Great Plains they have been especially hard on our Song Sparrows. One of our local Fish & Wildlife Service biologists (a former student of mine who unfortunately died prematurely last year) was heavily involved in a successful Cowbird eradication project to save a population of the endangered Least Bell's Vireo, which had been almost extirpated by the Cowbirds.
