Ed, I like your final crop a lot. I think it works very well. I am also frequently torn between "fill the frame" and the rule of thirds. In this case the rule of thirds gives the bird some room to fly into, and it also shows the bird and its prey in its natural setting.

Such an amazing capture deserves the best framing. I too like the final version the best.
