Default A new perspective...

Well, a few days ago I got a deal on an old 14ft John boat with a 40lb thrust trolling motor. Just the thing needed around here to explore the water ways for wildlife. So... my granddaughter and I went down to the closest lake armed with our cameras. Unfortunately, it was pretty crowded with skiers and jet ski's, along with a stiff breeze making the water pretty choppy for taking photos. I did manage to get a couple so so shots but nothing to jump up and down about. the best one was of my 14yr old GD refusing to look at the camera...

Then there was this GBH standing on a boat dock, that decided to walk away as we got closer. the boat was bobbing up and down quite a bit so I was surprised they came out at all.

And of course there was the usual Anhinga drying his wings perched on a moored patio boat. He took off soon as we got close enough to try getting a shot.

Later as we went back on shore I saw a few boat tail grackles showing off. I usually don't bother with them but this guy looked so pretty the was the sun was bringing out the color...

I think this female was trying to do an impersonation of an egret?

Just as we were getting ready to load the boat and leave, this odd couple showed up. The female is a Peking duck, the male is a cross breed of a Mallard and who knows... also noticed the feathers sticking out

Sorry bout the blown highlights...

Sometimes they get this look that just makes you want to take them home with you...

Looks like you had a nice adventure. I'm with your granddaughter. There aren't many photos of me as a child as I've always hidden from the camera. The ducks sure are an odd couple. You're right.

I don't have any grandchildern yet, but I have no doubt that any time spent with a grandchild is worthwhile. Who cares if you don't get any award-winning photos.

You certainly came upon, well, a couple of odd ducks!

Great to spend time with your GD - hopefully she is getting into Photography, but maybe at 14 it won't be the primary interest in her life.

Now as for that Beijing Duck, yes my wife would definitely want to take her home ..... and add some crispy pancakes, plum and soy sauce.

Thank you Patty, Mole & Ted. I enjoyed the time with my GD. I was surprised she even wanted to go with me but, I jumped at the chance to take her along.

Looks like you had a wonderful time. Nice picture too!

Spending time with my grandchildren is the best! I can spoil them rotten and if they act up just send them home to their parents.

Thank you Lou, You're so right, If I knew how nice it would be to have grand kids, I would have had them first and just skipped having children altogether!
