The D-FA weighs in at 345 grams and the FA weighs 600 grams....is weight a factor for you? I myself don't care about the weight....either will give you a good 1:1 macrro shot but the D-FA is the newer and is still in production....I would go for a new D-FA and get the warranty with it.

If you want a new lens at the lower price of the used FA, why not get a new Tamron 90mm macro? In comparison reviews I have seen the Tamron has performed better, and has a longer warranty. It is certainly well regarded on this Forum.

What Penolta said.

The best macro shots I've ever seen (insects) are by a Polish guy called Grzegorz Cywicki who uses a Tamron 90. And you can get a new one with (in the USA) a 7 year warranty, I believe it is, for the price of the used FA you are looking at.

If you were going to buy one of these two, rather than the Tamron, I'd buy the D FA WR. It offers weather sealing, which wouldn't be enough for me to buy one, but it also offers round aperture blades and so your OOF bits will be round rather than hexagonal (or however many aperture blades it has. The Tamron is pretty hard to beat from what I've seen. I've got the Vivitar Series One 105 so I'm not in the market for it, but if I were, I'd be temped by the new Pentax.

Definitely check to make sure that the D FA really is the new, WR version and not the older D FA, which doesn't have the round aperture blades.

Default Thanks looks like all belive Tamron to be best

With a brand new 90MM going on ASmazon for $460, and all on this post beliveing it is as good if not better than the Pemtax, I think I'll do Tamaron.

I dont need (but like the concept) of weather protection and dont see anyone telling me it is a $200 plus better lens than Tamaron.

You guys shure you dont work for Tamaron

Thanks

Assuming the extension tube I just made doesn't do what I want it to, then I will be getting the Tamron 90mm as well!
