Default Funny Motion Pictures

Saturday I was at the beach, using fast shutter speeds to freeze surfers. Today I tried using a slow shutter speed to blur cars driving by. As usual, I was shooting during my lunch hour, which means it's difficult to get a slow enough shutter speed. To get as slow a shutter speed as I could, I decided to shoot with the R72 filter, which gave me too slow shutter speeds. It was lots of fun, but not very successful.

Here's a picture of a passing car. It's got more of the car than most of the other pictures, which only had a line or two in the frame. (K100, kit lens, 1/4 sec. at f6.3)

This one is just so funny to me. I don't think I could ever purposefully take this picture again - it was strictly an accident. I was trying for a human shaped streak, but the shutter speed was too long. K100, kit lens, .6 sec. at f11.

I hope it brings a smile to your face, like it did mine.

Phil - I took these with this month's challenge in mind, however they didn't work out particularly well for conveying the idea of motion. I may still do something along these lines for it, but it won't be with as long shutter speeds.

Dustin - yes, it's a ghost shoe, looks like something from a bad horror film!

Hi Harriet,

I really like the "ghost runner" -- I think this is a technique you can exploit to some great effect. Some great out-of-the-box thinking!

Hey Harriet, I can't be sure because its not in color but, the first one looks a lot like my Maserati, was it a deep yellow Model: MC12XX by chance?

LOL! Perhaps that other shoe has run all the way to BC - wouldn't be surprised. GW - sorry to disappoint you, but I think the speeding car was an SUV. Smaller cars only left a small slightly brighter line across the frame, and your Maserati would have been long gone before the sensor would even manage that little bit.
