I have done the first successfully as a diffuser with earlier Pentax models, but not yet with the K-7; I see no reason why it would not work. And, yes, there is provision for flash compensation, from -2 to +1 EV in 1/3 EV increments, but I have never had to use it in daylight fill situations, as the TTL automation has always balanced the light automatically. For extreme closeups, one or the other method would be necessary - the DIY diffuser has worked for me.
