Default New old lens...

Well... in spite of my promise to myself that I wasn't going to buy any more lenses until I saved enough to get a good telephoto, I scummed to the low price of a SMC Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm In my defense, I was just browsing on eBay ad saw this one listed at a starting bid of $49.99 with 30 seconds left so, I couldn't stop to think about it and just placed the bid before it was gone. I mean... what else could I do right? Now all I have to do is wait for delivery.

seems logical to me. i mean, for that price, you kind of owed it to yourself to bid

Good deal - wonder why it didn't go for more. I've seen the M 50mm 1.7 go for the more than that.

Hi GW,

That's why I generally stay away from ebay nowadays!

I did have a recent brush with LBA, but closer to the other end of the price/FL spectrum. Kerrick James had a Sigma 500/4.5 APO MF in KA mount posted at the PF marketplace for $1000. I posted a reply and PM'd with questions about weight and Minimum Focusing Distance, since I'd never seen the lens before. It turns out that it was introduced in 1987, but supplanted by the AF model in '89, so it's got to be pretty rare, especially in K mount, and I couldn't find any specs anywhere.

He was out of town, so it took a while to get some answers, but it turns out that it weighs 7 lb, 11oz, comes with an AL trunk, and MFD is 19-20 ft. The MFD was the deal breaker, I was hoping it'd be closer to 12-13' like the current AF model. . . so I passed -- but it would have been pretty cool to have a lens that a well known Pentax pro used. . . maybe he could have autographed it. . .just bein' silly. . .

Anyway, this is a record for me, I now have a streak of one for one in denying LBA!

Congrats on a good deal!

Scott

Congratulations! What's your secret? Care to share it with the rest of the afflicted? Might be inspirational!

Hi penolta,

I think it was a very rare and hardly explainable attack of practicality. LBA is currently working on preventing this obvious character flaw from surfacing again. . .

. . . but I am proud to have set a record. . .

Great for that price I wouldn't have been able to say no.

Congrats
