Firmware was installed successfully... not hitch or glitch in the world... All within about 5 minutes, messing about with battery... card... etc.

Here is another photo from the lake, just across the street from my home and down a short path.

You have a lot of good advice already Ned but I think the most important thing to do .... is just get out there and take many many photos, trying different settings etc. as you go !

I've just spent 10 seconds with your photo in Curves !

Oops - uploaded the original again ! Here is the Curves version.

Thanks Frogfish! Appreciate your help. Indeed, it is really all about getting out and taking pictures and experimenting with different settings.

Thanks.

I really like Elements - I used it for about a month when my computer was in the shop (bought it for my hubby's computer) and found there wasn't anything during that month that I wasn't able to do (I usually use CS4). I love Photoshop, but only know a tiny amount of ways of doing things. I'm always picking up hints here and there.

Your pictures look good - looks like you're already having a great time with the camera.

Many thanks!!! The lake shot, it was on "green" [AUTO], so the jpeg quality was at three, it was at a higher ISO, etc etc etc. I spent part of the evening reading about the "P" and finding my way around the camera. Utterly awesome!!!
