Default Mostly macros...

Been gone for a week, helping at a training session at another park. These are some photos from last week, but this is the 1st time I've had a chance to post.

First an immature Harlequin Bug staring us down!

Now for a few recent Dragonflies.

This first one is a new record of this species for our county. Grey Petaltails are big, slow-moving and not very shy. They hang out mostly in older forests with lots of little springs. This one is posing on a trail sign!

One of my favorite dragonfly species has just started emerging. 12-spot skimmers are big and aggressive and very active as they chase other dragonflies away from their pond, and as they chase other insects for dinner. It's hard to find one perching for long, but this guy was very patient with the crazy photographer!

While out checking on the dragonflies, I noticed a somewhat larger "critter" enjoying the water. Nice to see a raccoon in its proper habitat, not raiding our campground trash bin!

Will post several more photos from this past week soon. Hope you enjoy these glimpses into East Tennessee mid-springtime. Thanks for any comments/critique!

Good to see that you came back from your trip and have given us some nice photos as a welcome gift so thanks

What sort of size are we talking with the larger dragonfly?

mole. these are really nice.

the flash really sets the bug and leaf out in the first shot. and i love the contrast of the dragonfly on the red sign in #2, very sharp.

my favorite is the first shot of the 12-spot skimmer. really shows off the body proportions and good and sharp, nice dof.

raccoons are hard to shoot in a pleasing manner, but the first one of the juvenile 'coon set is quite nice

Thanks Mark! They are about 80mm long, with a wingspan of about 100mm.

Raccoons are fine as long as they aren't around my food! Talk about clever raiders - they can be major pests. But they can also be cute, and I like your pictures.

I like the dragonflies better, though.
