Default Mating Hover Flies

Just playing with the dog I spotted these two flies about to mate ..... dived inside and grabbed the K7 with Tamron 70-300, 60mm Extension tubes & Vebron rails on tripod.

I thought these were youngsters as they were only about 2 cms long (less than 1/2 inch) and I've seen larger, obviously more than one type of Hover Fly is inhabiting my garden !

This is heavily cropped of course (maybe 1/8 of the original), 1/15, 400 ISO, I think it was F8 (shooting in MF).

I have some more shots I'll add to this later .... it's too late (early) here and the sky is lightening, so off to bed for me I'm afraid.

LOL that's awesome!

My first thought was "swinging from the chandeliers" looking forward to the rest of the shots!

Great capture of mating behavior! Fine colors too!

PS - remember they couldn't be young ones - young flies are maggots! Once they have wings, they don't keep growing...
