Default Zoo...m

Day two at the Shanghai Zoo. If I don't post them now I know they .... like so many others ... will get swallowed up by the vast black hole that is my hard disk !

Lenses used were CZJ Electric Sonnar 135/3.5 & Tamron LD Di 70-300 / 4.0 - 5.6.

#1 - The West African Crested Ibis complaining about the paparazzi.
#2 - It was a hot day & somebody poured their bottle of water over the bear - I think it was appreciated !
#3 - The strong sun / black bear contrast caused me problems but I thought because of the expression on the bear's face it was worth posting anyway !
#4 - Someone else complaining about the paparazzi !
#5 - Another one that wasn't going to make the cut but there is a cute story to this one : the female got up and walked around to stretch her legs, so dutiful male immediately went to take his turn on the nest, the female however was having none of it and gently eased him off the nest so she could continue incubating her eggs !

The first 5 were all taken with the CZJ Electric Sonnar 135/3.5.

BTW - Again these uploaded versions aren't as sharp as even the reduced size versions on my laptop. I really don't know why because all were within the 1024 width / 240kb size limits but have now been reduced to very small sizes (e.g. Ostrich below was really sharp at 233kb but after uploading is soft and just 69kb) ? *shrugs shoulders*

.... continued below

Nice shots!

Never seen a black swan before, kind of messed with my head!

I think the flower is a Foxglove, possibly the Apricot Orange variety? (can't tell if it is orange, but it's not the normal purple)

Thanks Ash. There are actually a lot of Black Swans on the lakes here. I think you are right about the flower because here is a shot showing both the cream coloured one and the purple version.

*shakes head - quality and sharpness degraded upon uploading*

Are those swans actually black, because in your shot they are a dark sapphire blue sort of colour. Just wondering if that was the white balance or the light reflecting off.

The flamingo, pelican, bear drinking water and the swans are just superb shots mate.

Thanks Ash ! The swans are probably not quite black but there was strong sunshine reflecting off of them too.

I have to admit i like going to zoos
I went to a small one on the weekend, mostly birds in aviaries, hopefully I can post some pics when i get time
the bear with its mouth open sure has a decent set of choppers
the flamingo looks very elegent and i would agree with foxglove
black swans are black (as black as any bird can be)
this is a local one near Perth city

i think the blue is from the sheen of the feathers reflecting the sky
in this one the sheen is reflecting white

i have no idea on the image quailty thing though
