Default Day Lilies

This past weekend we went to my step daughter and son in law's in Coco beach. they took us to a friends house to see the Day Lilies that they raise and sell online. I got a few shots of some of my favorites but, I had trouble with the set up I was using. It was partly cloudy and the sun kept popping in and out between the clouds and played havoc on lighting. I had the SP90mm on the camera with the 540 flash. I didn't have my defuser with me so to compensate for lighting I used f:22 and 1/125- 1/180th shutter for most of these. Consequentially the DOF suffered along with sharpness. One big lesson I learned was, don't rely on the screen view to determine how the exposure looks, when it looks good on my screen, in reality its way overexposed.
Anyway, here's some I was able to salvage with PP,
If you have some critique for how to improve composition I'd sure appreciate it.

I have trouble with flowers - never sure whether to show them full on or side on - I like to get a shot with more than one flower in different positions if I can but it's not always possible.

I think the composition on all of these looks pretty good apart from a couple of minor points:

#1 - I'd have moved the leaf that cuts in front of the flower
#5 - That's a very square shadow on the bottom of the flower - maybe the camera itself?

And...
#3 - I think is a great shot but this one is an Alstromeria not a Day Lily

Awesome shots!

Completely jealous of your light though, even with my Soligor flash set to 100% I can't do more than f11 1/120 on the brightest of days...

Thank you Martin,
I agree 100% on number 1. and would have done that but, the owner was pretty particular about where I could step in the garden and even though he didn't say anything, I could tell he really didn't want me touching the plants so, I just shot what I could.

#5. Yes, that shadow is from the lens itself. I was trying the bounce reflector on the flash. I'm really surprised that it caused that much of a shadow.

#3, Well... I don't know the difference a begonia and baloniea.

Thank you Ash, It was really hard for me to get my head wrapped around why a flash would cost almost half what I paid for the camera but, I'm glad I got the AF-540FGZ its very versatile.

Nice bunch, GW! I have a few of these varieties but there's only 2 blooming right now. Funny, I got invited to do a shoot at a day lily nursery in a couple of weeks.

That's a big collection, nr2 and 4 are imho the best, but the first one of the second series looks like something else.

Great series
