When you have so much stuff you forget about it... not that I'm any better, ya understand.
Anyway, you're probably right about it being re-packaged under several names, just like a lot of imported items we have here in the US. I've even heard rumors that Pentax is really a re-packed Canon.

Yes, I also recognised it as almost identical to my old Velbon. An amazing bargain.

I had a unit with an Argus brand name from around 1979. It was identical except for the tilting center section. Same head, same open channel legs, same leg locks just no tilting center. The Argus name was just marketing, selling Chinon cameras with that brand name at the time (real Argus cameras had long since disappeared) so the manufacturer is still a mystery.
