Default The Ringflash has arrived!

Well it arrived this morning, so didn't get a chance to test it until I was out on my walk. My results were variable at best, some shots came out great, others were just horrible. Still getting used to changing settings to account for the light being in a different place, and definitely need a diffuser on it, highlights are overblown in so many images, even at f22

Will start off with what I wished was one of the last shots I took once I wangled the settings a bit better:

Terribly overblown, but I wanted to post it anyway, if I got it right I would have really liked this shot...

Tried to get a bit of variety in my shooting today, much to the relief of mtngal I hope, but sadly there is a fly or two amongst them.

Here's the rest:

For 27 I am over the moon with this flash, it's not quite GW's free dual flash bargain, but I am more than pleased with the results so far.

Speaking of GW and his twin flash... where's your bug shots mate? want to see what you get with a dual flash so I can see how they compare to a ringflash.

That was one of those LED things, basically just a torch, it was rubbish outdoors.

This is a Centon MR2-0 which is the same as the Vivitar Macroflash 5000 apparently.

Hey Ash,
I have to admit I've been slacking off a bit on the bug shots lately.
Its either, I'm too tired, its too hot, or both! Or, perhaps just lazy.
I just got home a few minuets ago from installing a satellite dish for a friend. This heat just plain saps the life out you!
Anyway, when I got home, my safe sync hot shoe adapter was here and yesterday my Raynox 250 arrived so, now I guess I have to get off my duff and take some pics.

BTW, congrats on the new ring flash! One you get the hang of it, I'm sure you'll love it. The fern shots are great as are the fly shots.
Keep up the good work.

Thanks GW!

No pressure, just keen to see what you can achieve with your dual flash setup. It should give you a lot more creative options compared to this ringflash.

Looks like it's working, enough light and diffusing is easier than getting more light.

More than nice series to start with

Ronny

Cheers Ronny!

Yeah was worried it might not be bright enough, being a cheaply made and a pretty old flash. Going into town later, will see if I can find some sheets of opaque plastic to make a diffuser.

Lots of ways to make a diffuser, Ash. white plastic milk jugs, white paper, waxed paper, even clear Plexiglas if you use some fine sand paper to scratch it enough to make it translucent.
I was thinking about making some kind of holder like the cokin filters so I could slide different diffuser combinations to adjust for lighting needs.
