Default Vacation pics

Hey all,

Just went to the Grand Canyon and Carlsbad caverns for the first time last week. I thoroughly enjoyed both and hope to go back again.

The canyon was especially breathtaking and I just never realized how deep it was when I walked to the edge. I felt my heart race quite a bit and had to walk away.

The caverns had many interesting natural formations. I was happy to be in decent physical shape as it was a long walk with lots of rises and falls.

I took lots of photos and here are a few of them. Shots were taken with a K-X and the 18mm-55mm kit lens. A few of them were processed to either increase or decrease the exposure compensation. I hope you all enjoy them.

Nice series, I like the 2nd one the most, the the sun in a starburst works really nicely,
Super Frequent Flyer, no joke. Ex Patriot and loving it.
Canon Eos 60D, T1i/500D, Eos1, Eos 630, Olympus EPL-1, and a part time Pentax K-X shooter.

Good series. I like #1 best for the sheer scale and grandeur - the setting sun gives some great colour to the rock. Welcome to the site Rod !

Wonderful. Although, the two with the people sitting on the edge are making me dizzy. How can they do that? I can't decide which I like best. They are all beautiful.

Really nice...was the Grand Canyon at the North Rim or South Rim? I visied the South Rim last October and was wowed by how grand the GC was!

#2 at the GC gives a really nice perspective. Also the interior of the caverns have excellent lighting. I'm heading to the Rocky Mtn NP in October for a photo treck with my daughter..can't wait!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

The shots were from the South rim. Specifically from Mather point and Grandview point. I'll go to the North Rim on my next visit.

As far as the cavern is concerned, It was pretty dark and so I had to use long exposures (up to 20secs at f8) since my flash is weak(built-in flash) and was making the rock look white and washed out.

You did a brilliant job of these. The color of the first one is awesome, shows just how beautiful the canyon can be. And the second one is fun - they all make me regret staying home this summer, I am itching to go somewhere (anywhere at this point) to take some awesome scenery.

Number 4 cavern shot is outstanding. I have shot this environment and it isn't easy to get a keeper. Nice work.

Beautiful series, been to the Grand Canyon once and got lucky with the weather. Was one of the grandest sights I've ever seen. I plan on going back again someday for sure. Never been to Carlsbad Caverns though, I think that would be another place on my list as well, looks very cool.
