Default More Spoonbills

Yesterday in Green Cay Wetlands, Boynton Beach, Florida. Spoonbills were filter feeding in wetlands.

Superb photos Ed.
I'm curious as to why, the head band and markings around the ears are not as dark or as defined as the ones I've seen here. this is a shot of one I took last year for comparison. Its not as dark as some I've gotten but, its the only one I can find at the moment. Is this a seasonal thing maybe? or perhaps define the sex?

It's an age thing, GW. Only adult birds have the collar; immatures lack it and are paler in color.

Nice pictures, Ed. I particularly like 1 and 3.

BTW, Spoonbills are tactile feeders - they grub for snails and other small creatures, but have no means of filtration.

Lovely shots !

#1 looks almost like it's been superimposed - it doesn't look comfortable up there !
